Recycled Brilliance
The Sterling Natural Resource Center (SNRC) has been recognized with the prestigious Bahman Sheikh Award for Vision in Water Reuse at the 2025 WaterReuse California Awards for Excellence, celebrating its groundbreaking contributions to sustainable water management and community enrichment.
In addition to this honor, SNRC has also received the Water Environment Federation Utility of the Future Today Award. This recognition program seeks to reach deeply into the water sector to form and motivate a community of like-minded water utilities engaged in advancing resource efficiency and recovery, developing proactive relationships with stakeholders and establishing resilient, sustainable, and livable communities.
Completed in 2024, SNRC stands as a model of innovation and collaboration, made possible through the dedicated efforts of our amazing project team and partners. This state-of-the-art facility is transforming the way water is reused in California, recycling up to eight million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater and converting high-grade food waste into renewable energy, all while replenishing the local groundwater basin.
More than just a treatment plant, the SNRC is a community cornerstone. Its Administrative Center offers public gathering spaces, a demonstration garden, walking paths and picnic areas, while the Wastewater Treatment Facility was thoughtfully designed to blend into the surrounding neighborhood, featuring advanced noise and odor control systems and enclosed treatment processes to ensure minimal disruption.
Receiving these awards is a testament to the SNRC’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and service to the community. It reflects a shared vision for a future where water is responsibly reused, resources are maximized and communities thrive.
