Our civils team in the southeast region is celebrating a major Zero Harm milestone: 3,000,000 working hours without a single lost-time injury. This means the team has completed a record 1,303 days and over 3.5 years of work (and counting!) without a lost time incident.

This safety achievement is particularly unique in the heavy civil construction industry. According to the National Bureau of Labor Statistics, recordable incidents rates average approximately 3.4. 

The milestone is all the more impressive when you consider the sheer volume of work being performed by the team. Key projects currently include Jimmy Deloach Parkway, CATS Civil A BLE, Broad Run WRF, Military Cutoff Project, Surf City Bridge Project, Lake Kilby WTF, Patapsco WWTP, Maysville Bypass, Fayetteville Outerloop Project, Southeast Region Equipment Yard, Wilmington, NC Regional Office, and our Fredericksburg, VA Office.

According to Eric Yates, southeast region environmental, health & safety manager, the milestone record can be attributed directly to the personal commitment each of our teammates has made to make Zero Harm our number one priority at all times. The team also credits Southeast region Vice President Mark Johnnie for his determined efforts to reinforce our See Something, Say Something principle that personally empowers each of our teammates (or worksite visitors) to speak up and make their workplace safer.
