INGLEWOOD, CA —The Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) proudly celebrated a defining moment in its history with the groundbreaking of a brand-new Inglewood High School campus on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. With an overall budget of approximately $240 million, funded mostly through bond proceeds from Measure I, this transformational project marks a bold investment in the future of Inglewood students and a powerful commitment to enhancing student learning, innovation, and achievement.

District and Board leadership, educators, and community partners came together to mark the occasion with pride and anticipation. The new state-of-the-art campus will be a beacon of innovation, designed to foster critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability, and built to meet the evolving needs of students today and into the future. From collaborative classrooms and specialized labs to modern technology and flexible learning environments, the future of education in Inglewood is being built from the ground up.

“This is more than groundbreaking, this is a promise,” said Dr. James Morris, IUSD County Administrator. “We are promising our students a future where innovation, access, and excellence intersect. This investment reflects our unwavering belief that every student in Inglewood deserves a world-class education in a world-class learning environment, one that prepares them to step confidently into their future.”

Echoing this commitment, Raphael Guzman, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services and Chief Business Official, emphasized the community-driven process behind the project. “There has been collaboration between teachers, staff, parents, students, and the community. Everyone has had a say in how this facility will look. We are very excited for what the future will bring with the brand-new Inglewood High School,” he shared.

The excitement of the day was matched by the shared vision of possibility. The reimagined campus will support deeper learning, empower educators, and unlock opportunities that set students on a path to success in college, career, and life. Board President Margaret Turner-Evans captured the spirit of the day, stating, “This groundbreaking is a celebration of what we can accomplish when we invest in our youth and our community. The new Inglewood High School will serve as a beacon of opportunity, innovation, and hope, not just for today’s students, but for generations to come.”

The groundbreaking also honored the collaboration and leadership of the project’s strategic partners: Balfour Beatty as general contractor, Cordoba Corporation overseeing construction management, and Practice leading the architectural design.

Balfour Beatty will deliver over 150,000 square feet in new construction, including two new CTE buildings and site improvements, designed to meet the needs of today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce. The campus design features flexible learning spaces, STEM laboratories, technology-integrated classrooms, arts and performance venues, and athletic facilities, all built to foster critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability. Each partner has played a critical role in shaping a space that will serve not just as a school, but as a launchpad for dreams.

"Breaking ground on Inglewood High represents a pivotal moment for this community and marks another opportunity for our company to play a role in transforming educational environments across California," said Emily Kay, Balfour Beatty president in California. "As we begin construction on this state-of-the-art facility, we're excited to work with Inglewood Unified School District and our industry partners to bring our client’s vision to reality. This milestone exemplifies our dedication to delivering innovative learning spaces that will serve students and families for generations to come.”

“Schools are the centers of communities. They are the places where students come to learn, to be seen, to be inspired, and to grow connections that will carry them throughout their lives,” said Greg Kochanowski, Principal Architect at Practice. “Schools bring communities together for shared stories, experiences, and celebrations. Through our collaboration with the District, our team at Practice has designed this project to do just that.”

As construction begins and progress takes shape, the new Inglewood High School stands as a symbol of what’s possible when community, vision, and purpose unite. The District’s commitment is clear: to ensure every student is equipped, inspired, and empowered for a lifetime of success.
