Southeast Rail Extension

Southeast Rail Extension (SERE)

The popular 19-mile Southeast Rail line currently connects Douglas County to Aurora in the major metropolitan Denver area. But by 2019, an additional 2.3 miles of the light rail system will extend commuting options farther east – and provide opportunities for economic growth in the Lone Tree area.

The Regional Transportation District of Denver’s (RTD) current Southeast Rail Line is 19 miles long and connects Douglas County to Aurora. Balfour Beatty is currently adding 2.3 miles and three stations to the light rail line as part of a design-build contract. The extended route will feature stops at Sky Ridge Medical Center and the future Lone Tree City Center. The project also includes a rail bridge and over I-25 that will eventually carry the light rail train eastbound across I-25 to the new rail station at LoneTree.

When the extension is completed in 2019, travelers will be able to ride the Southeast Rail Line from the new terminus at RidgeGate Parkway, transfer to the commuter line and travel along the Gold Line built as part of Balfour Beatty’s Eagle P3 project. Commuters can then travel to downtown Denver or the Denver International Airport.

Concurrently, Balfour Beatty is building the SkyRidge Bridge across I-25 to spur development along the new light rail alignment at Lone Tree’s City Center. The SkyRidge Bridge will support a four-lane road and 10-foot multi-use path. When completed in 2018, prior to the opening of the Southeast Rail Extension in 2019, the SkyRidge Bridge will provide additional connectivity through Lone Tree and provide opportunities for economic growth in the area.
