Through two contracts, Balfour Beatty is building the Civil Segment A and the Track and Systems components of the new Charlotte Blue Line LYNX Blue Line light rail extension. The Blue Line extends Charlotte’s LYNX light rail system 9.3-miles northeast from Ninth Street in Center City through the North Davidson and University areas, terminating on the UNC Charlotte campus. The project was planned to reduce overall congestion on I-85 by offering service to 11 new stations planned along the extension.
As part of this contract, Balfour Beatty is responsible for the construction of all Segment A civil components, ballasted track, traction power system, overhead catenary system, train control, communications and other systems along the alignment. The company has also furnished and installed 11 traction power substations.
