    Balfour Beatty Construction Honors Senior Superintendent Mike Ross with 2016 Relentless Ally Award

    SAN DIEGO – Balfour Beatty Construction has named Mike Ross its 2016 Relentless Ally – the highest honor the company can bestow upon its employees. Balfour Beatty’s Relentless Ally Award recognizes and honors the contributions of high-performing individuals who most embody the company’s vision centered on Zero Harm, Zero Waste, Client Advocacy and Employee Inspiration. Thanks to his dedication to his teams and clients, Mike Ross truly lives the company’s purpose by definition: “To be a Relentless Ally for the success of each and every dream that we are entrusted to build.”

    As a senior superintendent in Balfour Beatty’s San Diego office, the role Ross plays is mission critical to the company’s ultimate success. Like his peers across the company, the senior superintendent is a unique individual demonstrating extreme talent in balancing both the on-site field administration and technical supervision of projects, while also building and nurturing trusted relationships with clients and communities.

    When it comes to client advocacy, Ross has ingrained himself so completely with his clients at Hemet Unified School District that he has become an indispensable partner to the district, continuously managing projects since his first project there in 2004. Illustrating this unique relationship, the district honored Ross with the highest award the district can bestow upon its employees – the Good Apple award. Ross is the first and only non-district employee to ever receive this annual award in a school district founded in 1894.

    “Mike Ross is the epitome of a relentless ally to every Balfour Beatty teammate, and the clients and communities he serves every day,” said Brian Cahill, president of Balfour Beatty’s California Division. “Many of Hemet USD’s senior leaders consider Mike a member of their family and trust him for his safe projects, his ability to deliver on time and their complete faith that he is always looking out for their best interests. Not only does he lead effective teams to efficiently deliver projects, safety is in his DNA, he is an invaluable mentor and a true inspiration to everyone who comes into contact with him.” 

    The school district also greatly appreciates Ross’ ability to save it money and his talent for finding ways to expedite projects. His team says he is relentless in his quest to reduce waste on projects and continuously seeks ways to deliver work more efficiently and under budget.

    Ross has completely and personally embraced the company’s commitment to accepting nothing less than Zero Harm for anyone coming into contact with its work. He has won numerous California division “top hammer” awards for safety, the highest award and recognition among his peers for prioritizing a safety culture. Ross routinely hosts jobsite barbecues for safety recognition, handing out prizes to top performers and his subcontractor partners appreciate his genuine concern for their safety. His Hemet USD clients say it’s his attention to Zero Harm to the public that’s most important to them and the way Ross maintains safe jobsites on active school campuses.

    Ross considers every person with any connection to his projects a member of his extended family. This includes every subcontractor employee, security guards, students, faculty, administration, board members, and neighbors. His team reports that he is deeply principled and is an inspiration to everyone who comes into contact with him. As Ross’ teammates can attest, in the 12 years since he joined the company, he has consistently embodied exactly what it means to be a trusted team player who continuously goes above and beyond to deliver for his clients.
