How Cool is This School?
August 08, 2018
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is always a memorable event for our teams, clients and partners. The recent ceremony for Texas's new Manor ISD Senior High School was no different - but the school itself is far from ordinary.
The new three-story, 201,702-square-foot Manor Senior High School, includes core curriculum classrooms, performing arts areas with a black box theater, orchestra and band areas, as well as a competition gymnasium, administration offices, cafeteria and kitchen.
Manor ISD also included an advanced Career and Technology Center (CTE) in this new facility, fulfilling their goal of creating a senior high school where all students graduate with not only with a diploma, but also a certificate or career training to support their transition beyond high school.
The new future-ready CTE serves juniors and seniors with a focus on launching students forward. The CTE features classes in architecture, engineering, education, health science, law enforcement, agribusiness, manufacturing and business. Fully operational hands-on classes include a culinary arts section with a full commercial kitchen and video production system for producing television cooking shows. A cosmetology center with a beauty salon will provide services to the community as part of their hands-on training, and a state-of-the-art media lab for film, radio broadcasting, animation, gaming and graphic design. There are also advanced labs for science, veterinary and medical studies.
The new school incorporates key sustainable features such as daylighting with floor-to-ceiling windows in many areas of the school, 100% LED lighting controlled by touchscreen with dimmable lighting options to adjust for incoming daylight. Site work includes bus and student drop-off drives, service and loading areas, landscaping, field house, utilities, required grading and an on-site detention pond containing a unique wet pond stocked with native plants for study by students in the school’s biology program.
to see a great KXAN Austin video about the school and what it means to the students and the community.
Congratulations to the entire team for accomplishing this impressive milestone!
