Balfour Beatty Construction's Ryan O'Donnell Named to Engineering News Record Southwest's Top 20 Under 40

    January 12, 2016

PHOENIX - Balfour Beatty Construction congratulates Ryan O’Donnell, project manager in Phoenix for being named one of Engineering News Record (ENR) Southwest’s 2015 Top 20 Under 40 winners. The publication’s annual regional competition recognizes 20 individuals under the age of 40 who represent the “Best-of-the-Best in their construction and design careers by giving back to their industry and communities.

O’Donnell has over 12 years of construction industry experience, including 10 years with Balfour Beatty Construction. During his fourth year with the company, he relocated to Guam for 18 months with his wife and two dogs to serve as a project engineer of an $8 million central utility plant project. After successfully completing the project, he returned to the Phoenix office where he was promoted to project manager with a focus in the hospitality market.

As project manager, O’Donnell has successfully delivered several hospitality projects including a 102-guest room addition and 57,000-square-foot ballroom addition at the Fairmont Princess Resort; a new Scottsdale resort sales center building and public space renovations; a 70-unit hotel building renovation, new villas and courtyard; T. Cook’s restaurant renovation for the Royal Palms Resort in Phoenix; and ADA upgrades and model rooms for the Phoenician resort. With these projects representing a small sampling of his work, O’Donnell has also overseen many projects in the retail, office, public, and industrial market sectors.

An avid golfer, O’Donnell combines his love for the game into his work-life, especially when working near one of the hundreds of golf courses located in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area. He also participates in numerous local industry and charity golf tournaments on an annual basis, including the NAIOP Golf Tournament; the Valley Hotel and Resorts Association’s Tournament, an association in which he’s an active member and serves on the membership committee, the Central Arizona Society for Healthcare Engineering’s (CASHE) annual Golf Outing, as well as many others.

O’Donnell also enjoys giving back to the community by participating in the “Celebration of the Arts, an annual day made special for special-needs children at the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts. During the event, he leads a group of children to different activities, helping them make crafts, and simply making it a good day for them.

“I’m very proud of Ryan’s well-deserved acknowledgement by ENR Southwest,” said Stephen Hulston, vice president and business unit leader for Balfour Beatty Construction in Phoenix. “Not only is he a talented, young professional with innovative ideas and an engaging personality, he is relentlessly dedicated to his clients, team members, coworkers, community and most importantly, his family. His success can also be attributed to his keen ability and willingness to serve as a mentor to others and lead by example. I can honestly say it’s very rare for anyone to ever see him without a smile on his face. These combined traits truly set him apart as a valuable industry leader.”
