Jim Taylor Joins Board of Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation

February 24, 2009

Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation, a non–profit organization committed to honoring military personnel and their families announced today that Jim Taylor has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors for a two–year term. In addition to serving on the Foundation’s Board, Mr. Taylor is Division President of Military Housing for Balfour Beatty Construction. "We are pleased that Jim has agreed to join the Foundation’s Board," said Bruce Robinson, President of Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation. "His insight into not only military housing projects but the construction industry as a whole will add invaluable insight and perspective to our board, allowing them to best guide the Foundation. As we strive to support our military personnel, we are confident that Jim will provide a voice that will ensure our full understanding of construction needs and capabilities." The Foundation is committed to honoring military personnel – active, wounded, and fallen – by establishing places for communal gathering and reflection, altering homes to accommodate their needs, and providing educational scholarships to the children of active duty service members. Taylor’s construction and housing background will translate specifically into the Foundation’s goal of building new or adapting existing homes for handicapped accessibility of severely injured service members. The role of the Foundation Board is, among other things, to promote activities to raise funds for the Foundation, select appropriate candidates to award scholarships, determine the optimal locations for placing areas of remembrance. As a division President of Balfour Beatty Construction, Mr. Taylor has complete responsibility for directing the efforts of its $400 million a year Military Housing Business Unit, including the oversight of preconstruction services, marketing, estimating, project management, staffing, strategic planning, scheduling, procurement, and business development. During the course of his management experience, Mr. Taylor has participated in several mediation and arbitration efforts with both owners and subcontractors that have led to successful resolution.

Mr. Taylor received an AS in Civil Engineering from Central Piedmont Community College and completed the Advanced Management program at the Kenan–Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Taylor served as president of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia (ABC), as well as the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA). He is currently a member of the National Peer Review Program, General Services Administration (GSA), and the Construction Battalion of the US Navy "Seabees".
