Opening Our Doors For Boys And Girls Clubs

In an effort to familiarize students in Broward County, Florida, with careers in construction, Balfour Beatty Construction led two groups from the Thomas D. Stephanis Unit Construction Club (Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Broward) on two field trips to in–progress construction projects. The first site was the new, 1,000–vehicle, five–story parking garage at the Broward College/Florida Atlantic University campus in Davie; the second was the "Elementary School A" project in Fort Lauderdale.

Teens met with the projects' Superintendents, Accountants, Engineers, Project Managers, Operational Director Chris Long, and Vice President Tim Anderson. The Balfour Beatty team answered questions, outlined safety procedures, and reviewed blueprints of the site with the students, all prior to their stepping on the actual construction sites.

"[The students] were really excited. We accomplished what we set out to do –– to change the students' mindset and encourage them," said Karla Boynton, Legacy Program Directors.
