On Saturday, August 23, 2008 24 players sponsored by Balfour Beatty Construction went hog wild in the 16th annual March of Dimes Mud Volleyball Challenge at Lee Vista Center. This was our second year participating in the event to raise money to support the March of Dimes in their quest to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
Over 1,500 players on 167 recreational and competitive teams sponsored by 150 different companies played in 2-3 feet of mud. Over $182,000 was raised for the March of Dimes, with money still coming in. BBC contributed $1,200, and employees and their friends and families raised an additional $4,800.
Team #1, the Balfour Beatty Mudd Dobbers, included Roslyn Henderson, Josh Taylor, Darol Watson, Heath Bruns, Kimberly Wright, Jonathan Pearch and Tommy MacCabe. Team #2, the Balfour Beatty Notorious P.I.G.s, featured Kelly Jo Williamson, Matt Caldwell, Todd Stewart and his wife Ellen, Ethan Peters, Rob McAfee, Jessica Kayser, and Jamie Wray. Rounding out Team #3, the Balfour Beatty Pork Roasters, were Chad Tinetti, Tim Ferris, Isaac Nadeau and his wife Bryn, Kurtis Wright, and Dave Goltz and his fiancee Mary Shearhod.
About 40-50 “cheerleaders” were on hand to share the filthy fun. The Spirit! squad included Mike Wood, Sean DeMartino, Rob Baker, Phil Davis, Sr., Robin Davis, and the most outgoing cheerleader of all, Nancy Barton. It was a great turnout!
