The BBC Builders of Hope team took part in the annual Relay for Life 2009 overnight event in Cape Coral, March 20-21, 2009. The Relay for Life is one of the American Cancer Society’s fundraising events in Cape Coral. “It is my pleasure to announce that the Builders of Hope earned a ‘Bronze Team’ standing at this year’s Relay for Life. This recognizes the combined efforts of the team to achieve a fundraising goal of over $2,500 for the American Cancer Society,” commented team captain and Project Accountant Sandra Kyser. “Congratulations to everyone! I am very proud of all of you for coming together as the awesome team we are, and for earning this wonderful reward. Our name speaks volumes of who we are!”
The team, a determined group of cancer survivors, caregivers and supporters, pulled together to complete the 18-hour overnight relay that started at 6:00pm and ended the following day at noon.
“I became involved in Relay for Life four years ago here in Cape Coral. As a survivor myself, and a caregiver for other family members, I understand the importance of this event as well as the need to raise funds for the continuation of research to stamp out cancer,” said Sandra.
The team included Sandra Kyser, project accountant and team captain; Anabel Palma, receptionist; Alan Silver, vice president and his two children; Gary Vargas, senior project manager and his two sons; Diane Ansaldi, executive assistant and her husband; Laurie Lagos, project manager; Mitch Thomas, superintendent; Karen Baker, project accountant; Mayda Suarez, project accountant; Rondell Newson, project engineer and Scott Long, project engineer.
