Tying in with the Balfour Beatty Holiday party, employees donated toys and gift cards to benefit Northern Virginia Family Service clients and other needy children in the Northern Virginia area. Holiday party raffle tickets were given out to the employees who donated. All together BBC donated 27 toys and $1,460 in gift cards to Northern Virginia Family Service. The holiday party raffle ticket sales also raised over $3,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Some jobsites took it upon themselves to do some fundraising of their own. The Mount Rogers project team came together to raise $575 to help the Elks Lodge with their annual Children’s Christmas Party for Low Income Families. The Mount Rogers project team asked Balfour Beatty to match their donation and the team was able to present a check for $1,150 to the Elks Lodge. The Mount Rogers project team was featured in the Galax Gazette for their charitable donation.
The two project teams at Fort Lee, Logistics University and Central Campus, raised money to benefit the Holiday Helper Program which benefits the families of enlisted soldiers by providing toys and grocery vouchers. The Logistics University team took a holiday bag out to the field and collected $1,070 from the workers on site. The jobsite staff donated almost another $1,000 and other donations came in from various subcontractors. Team management matched the funds received and thus a total of $6,160 was donated to the Installation Morale Welfare Relief Fund (IMWRF) for the Holiday Helper program. The Central Campus team donated an additional $1,240 to the IMWRF to assist with the purchase of food vouchers. The Fort Lee projects teams were able to give over $7,000 to help the deserving soldiers have a better holiday season with their families.
To end the season of giving, Balfour Beatty employees volunteered for the Department of Veteran Affairs’ Winterhaven Homeless Veterans event on January 10th. The Winterhaven event brings in homeless veterans from around the District to give them medical check-ups, job guidance, clothes, and a hot meal. Balfour Beatty volunteered for the lunch service where they helped prep and serve food for 300 homeless veterans and the 500 people who volunteered that day.
It’s no mystery why Balfour Beatty Construction is one of the best places to work. We are made up of generous, hard working people who want to make difference in the communities in which we live and work. Over this holiday season Balfour Beatty raised over $13,000 and donated countless hours to help seven different charities. Thank you to all of those who donated money or time in any of these fund raisers or events.
