Meet Our People

"One of the Crew"

If you’re stifled by the thought of working in a limited environment, then Balfour Beatty Construction is the place for you. We have talented teams working on diverse projects in areas all across the country. And this diverse portfolio keeps our teammates challenged and our business growing.

Taking pride in a great accomplishment is one thing. Knowing that your accomplishment helps support national security is quite another.

Maria Thompson
Senior project manager in Fairfax, Virginia
Maria was a key Balfour Beatty Construction team member on the project to build the Defense Threat Reduction Center, completed in the fall of 2005. The Center serves as home to the government agency that works to locate weapons of mass destruction.

If you look at our employees, you’ll see career paths as interesting as the projects we build. Meet Dewey Harding, Jr., a 32-year Balfour Beatty Construction veteran and general superintendent. For Dewey, a construction career is a family tradition – his father and grandfather also worked in the industry.

Age 21: Dewey joined the company in Tampa, Florida, as a carpenter/foreman working on the GT&E Switching Building and the University of South Florida Medical Center. As a foreman, Dewey led other carpenters on various tasks throughout the building process.

Age 27: With two promotions under his tool belt, Dewey worked as a superintendent on Veterans Administration Research Center projects in Houston. As superintendent, he was directing the work of subcontractors and managing the many facets of each project.

Age 38: Who could resist living in the Virgin Islands? That’s where Dewey landed with his family so he could work on the Sugar Bay Plantation Resort project. “It was a great time for us,” said Dewey. “On weekends, we’d go exploring the surrounding islands. Everything was beautiful. And my youngest daughter was able to attend a wonderful private school there, where she received an excellent education.”

Age 48: With his children grown and on their own, Dewey and his wife moved to Dallas, where he was general superintendent on the $350 million Gaylord Texan Resort project. “One of the things I appreciate is the opportunity to work on significantly different kinds of projects,” Dewey says. “The Gaylord Texan is a spectacular hotel, and it was great to be a part of the team building it.”

Age 50: Dewey received a well-deserved honor from Baker Drywall as General Superintendent of the Year. Baker is the largest drywall contractor in the U.S.

Age 53: Dewey works as general superintendent on the largest real estate development on the East Coast, the Midtown Miami project. He is also proud of a personal project his family has started in Clermont, Florida. They are committed to building a park in memory of his neighbor’s daughter. “My wife and daughter are doing most of the legwork, organizing events and raising funds," Dewey says, adding, "I'm just the 'hammer and nails' guys."
